Narrative Project - Fairy Tales and Dark Stories - Due October 30th
This will be your third long term assignment. For this assignment you will be selecting either a Fairy Tale or an Edgar Allan Poe poem as the inspiration for you photo illustration. For centuries artists have used paint, pencil and chisel to tell the stories of the past. Now it is your turn to follow in this tradition. You will need to apply all that you have learned so far about camera techniques, composition and Photoshop to create your photo illustration.

Early Photographers That Told Stories in Their Pictures
In the early years photography was seen as a purely scientific endeavor, not art. It was merely a chemical reproduction of the camera obscura. Photographers employed several established artistic ideals, first a foremost was adopting the use of a narrative, historical events and religious icons to create photo illustrations to depict the story.
Julia Margaret Cameron, the first famous woman photographer from England, was also the first well known photographer to start setting up her photographs to tell stories. She Depicted the story of King Arthur, Guinevere and Lancelot. She photo graphed several stories from the Bible and work with Angels in Many capacities.
William Mortensen an American Pictorialist Photographer from America created a haunting collection of images in the 1930's. He used a special process called the Carbon process. He also did extreme manipulation of the negatives and prints. Often drawing with carbon pencils, scratching out areas of an image to re-work the image.
